Workshop Program
The Workshop program is based on the philosophy that the best medium for vocational rehabilitation is work itself and that the skills and attitudes which make a person a good employee also enable him to improve his social relationships. The program is designed to help vocationally disabled persons to adjust to the demands of a work situation.
Clients work in one or more of the following areas: assembly of pivot shoes, assembly of stainless steel mirrors (layout, spot weld, drill). They also perform layout, cutting, sewing, grommeting, folding, packing, sealing, and packaging of impermeable laboratory aprons and/or vinyl food handler's aprons. There are several other contracts in which the clients perform packaging and shipping work.
In addition to learning how to perform various tasks, clients are also helped to develop attitudes and behaviors which are desirable in an employee; for example, promptness, dependability, ability to complete an assigned task, concern for quality workmanship, proper care of work station and materials, attention to personal appearance, acceptance of instruction and supervision, and learning to get along with fellow workers.
